LEAVING THE UK:- Take M25 around London, then M20 on to the Channel Tunnel terminal at Folkestone. No booking is necessary with the Channel Tunnel, but it's best if you book beforehand. Crossing time normally around 40mins. Cost with a normal family car will be between £100 to £400 depending on season and time of crossing.

ARRIVING IN FRANCE:- It's best if driving a diesel car, to arrive with your tank fairly low, as the cost of refuelling with diesel in France is still lower than the UK, around the equivalent of 25p/litre less!! Petrol is around the same as in the UK.

Please be aware that on this route you will need money for tolls - around 50€ in total - the equivalent of around £40, or you can pay via credit card.

Once away from the Channel Tunnel terminal on the French side, you need to follow the autoroute South in the direction of Caen via the Normandy Bridge. From Caen follow the autoroute to Rennes.

You need to pass Rennes using the ring road to the West and South of the town, after which you are looking for the N137/E3 going South in the direction of Nantes.

Once on the N137/E3, just past the town of Nozay, take the single carriageway road the N171 heading Southeast through La Griggonais, Blain and Bouvron. Stay on the N171 until it becomes a dual carriageway at Savenay.

Once on the dual carriageway N171 at Savenay, simply follow it past St Nazaire and on to us at La Baule!

Long journeys in France are much easier than in the UK, and although the distance from Calais to La Baule is around 450 miles, you should easily cover it in around 6hrs.
